Your first step to an all-IP future

The UK Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) will be switched off in 2025, with some services affected as early as 2021.

The replacement products, referred to as “Single Order”, include Fibre to the Premise (FTTP) and Single Order Generic Ethernet Access (SOGEA).

SOGEA is currently the most widely available 2025 data product. It’s a cheap and reliable option, but speed of the service is affected by the distance between the premise and the exchange. Get in touch with our team to check if this option is right for you.

SoGEA FAQs

SoGEA, or Single Order Generic Ethernet Access, is a way to get broadband to your home/ office without needing a traditional phone line.

Instead of using a phone line, SoGEA uses the same fiber/copper network that's used for the internet, but without the phone line part.

SOGEA is currently the most widely available 2025 data product. It's an affordable and dependable choice, although the speed of the service is influenced by how far the premise is from the exchange.

In December 2025, the UK Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) will be switched off. It supports a range of telephone and broadband products, including basic telephone lines, multi-lines, ISDN2, ISDN30, ADSL broadband and Fibre to the Cabinet (FttC) broadband.

The replacement products include Fibre to the Premise (FttP), Single Order Generic Ethernet Access (SOGEA) and Cloud Telephony.

If you already have a service that relies on a phone line, like ADSL or FttC, you'll need to switch to something like SoGEA.

SoGEA is a great alternative in cases where Fibre to the Premise (FTTP) isn't available yet.

If you want to keep making and receiving calls, you'll need a solution like Cloud Voice Express or Cloud Voice.

Your choice will depend on the features your business requires: We typically recommend Cloud Voice Express to very small single-site businesses, freelancers or sole traders who require a single phone line, while Cloud Voice is our feature-rich hosted telephony platform.
