Broadband is a high-speed internet connection that is used to connect your premises to the internet. In contrast to the sluggish dial-up connections of the past, broadband has revolutionised internet access, providing significantly faster speeds and enabling a broader range of online activities.
There are many ways to connect to Broadband, what we are looking at here is the connection that plugs into your home/business router. The underlying technology for this can vary - please see the explanations below.
Copper Broadband
This is where a copper cable is used from the exchange to a cabinet in the street and then via another copper cable to your premises. This can be called copper, ADSL or MPF and is generally for lower speed connections.
Fibre to the Cabinet
This is where the first part of the connection from the exchange to the cabinet uses fibre optic cables and then from the cabinet to your premises it is a copper cable. This is sometimes called part fibre, FTTC or SOGEA. Due to the use of fibre optic cabling for the first part of the connection these tend to be a bit faster connections than copper.
Fibre to the Premises (Full Fibre)
This is the latest technology with Fibre Optic cabling used for all of the connection and offers the most reliable and quickest connections on the market.
