Grace Ingham, Head of People Support at Chess, discusses how our people work together to create positive and inclusive culture. She covers:

Our people are what make Chess a great place to work and we are always working to create a positive and inclusive workplace. Best companies recently announced their quarterly rankings and we are proud to announce that Chess has retained our top rankings.

An award-winning culture isn’t developed overnight, we nurture and develop this over time. A great culture is one that reinforces our shared values, fosters teamwork, and inspires our people to put their best foot forward. In this blog, I cover some of the recent ways that we have fostered our great culture at Chess.

Leadership Training

Investing in our current leaders and aspiring leaders is at the forefront of our People strategy. Over the last few months, we have been running internal Leadership Development Sessions which are bespoke to Chess and the expectations we expect from our Leaders. The session covers; leadership styles, Field-Force analysis, Culture and Change, the communication process, effective working relationships and the launch of our brand-new leadership Charter. It’s been great seeing our leaders coming together to share best practice and refresh on what skillset that is fundamental to great leadership.

The leadership charter is a document we launched at our annual summer conference this year. It sets out the expectations and behaviours we expect from our leaders with guiding principles or how to lead, develop and manage teams across the business.

Raising Money for Charity

Giving something back to our local community is at the heart of our Culture strategy. We have 12 chosen company charities which our People support in a variety of different ways. Our Business Sales Team bravely took on the Inflatable 5k in aid of Pendleside Hospice. The 12 strong team of runners completed the course and raised a whopping £1270 which will be so greatly received by the Hospice.

If you'd like to donate, you can via Just Giving.

One Culture Team

This Summer also saw the launch of our brand new ‘One Culture’ Team. This is a team that incorporates our most driven and passionate People to drive DEI, Green, CSR and Cultural initiatives. Our Cultural Ambassadors are brand advocates who promote Chess, messages and our Culture across the business. They actively play a part in the wider community and are ambassadors for creating and embracing a culture of diversity where everyone is treated in a fair and inclusive manner.
