Sustainable and Resilient Business with Simple Tech Choices
Stephen Dracup, COO at Chess, heads up the Green Team in the organisation. He reviews three main technology areas you can focus on to improve your business sustainability easily. He covers:
ESG is short for Environmental, Social and Governance. It is a set of standards measuring a business's impact on society, the environment, and how transparent and accountable it is. In the past, you may have heard this referred to as Corporate Social Responsibility, and the main difference is that ESG is very much based on setting targets and measuring your impact. At present, the legislation only covers a few huge organisations. Still, there are good reasons to start taking this seriously apart from just wanting to play your part in the wider community. Here is a link to our ESG Future FIT Panel.
Chess and ESG
I recently shared a summary of our focus areas with an industry publication, Comms Dealer. Our initial research shows that 95% of our ESG impact is passed to us by our suppliers. So we have decided to focus on promoting suppliers, products and services which are ethically produced and minimise environmental and social impact.
The rise of the modern workplace and the demands this puts on your phones, PCs, laptops, and tablets has created the need to invest in business devices that are thinner, lighter, more secure and with new levels of performance and connectivity.
The average lifespan of a business laptop is three years but when you have finished with it, it still has value and can be repurposed in many ways. We have introduced a leasing model similar to PCP finance in cars. You pay a monthly fee for the computer and at the end of the lease period, you send it back. All the hassle of recycling is taken away from you and you can be assured that all environmental legislation is being followed.
Excellent connectivity is key to working effectively in a hybrid world and FTTP is undoubtedly a lot faster and more reliable than FTTC or ADSL. But did you know that, unlike 5g, FTTP is also significantly more energy efficient? UK FTTP is based on a technology called GPON and this is 7.5 times more efficient than the networks it is replacing. Check if FTTP is available at your premises HERE.
We provide consultancy, delivery, adoption and support for a wide range of products and services that make it easy to work securely anywhere, anytime. In this Future Insight Technology exclusive panel the leaders in the technology industry will talk about how technology can help you build a sustainable, resilient organisation, while driving operational costs down. Microsoft, Cisco, Talk Talk and Sage will share what they have learned from the switch to hybrid working, their ESG priorities and how they will achieve them
Digital transformation and sustainability are high on everyone’s agenda with over 81% of UK organisations creating a formal ESG strategy, according to EY. Technology is a critical component, but budget restraints and economic downturn will pose a challenge.
