Chess Internal Service Desk get over 70 devices ready for donation
We’re delighted to have been able to pass on 79 laptops to Warrington Youth Club and Winsford High School to help students struggling to access essential online resources and tuition. Huge thanks to the team who gave up their weekends to help make this happen, as we know these devices will make a real difference.
The challenges of home schooling are being felt by families across the country. It’s estimated that as many as 1.8 million children do not have access to a laptop, desktop or tablet, and schools are appealing for help from companies and individuals who may have old or unwanted devices.
Passing on old devices does involve some planning and preparation, particularly to make sure that any data is deleted beyond retrieval.
Our skilled Internal Service Desk team volunteered to take on the job of getting our old devices donation ready, and they generously set aside two weekends in January for the task.
There were five areas that they focused on:
- Backing up data.
- Checking and cleaning up the screens and keyboards.
- Removing device management software
- Wiping data.
- Resetting the TPM Chip.
Where to Donate
A list of organisations appealing for laptops can be found here, and many schools and Academy Trusts have also launched their own appeals locally. Many organisations are able to access free data wiping services, check online in your local area for more information.
