We’re making some changes to our prices - 1st January 2018

BT are increasing their prices across Lines, Call Packages and Broadband from 1st January 2018, some by as much as 20%.

The great news is that Chess as always will remain cheaper than BT and are launching never beaten on price, all-inclusive packages so that you can save even more.

We will be sharing more details around our great new packages and pricing soon.

We’re making some changes to our prices - 1st March 2017

From the 1st of March 2017 BT are increasing their line rental prices to business customers by an average of 6%. In line with these changes Chess will also be increasing some of our prices but we’ve kept them as low as possible and some customers will see no price rise at all.
We are proud to offer contracted customers a minimum 15% saving on BT and all of our customers are protected by our Never Beaten on Price Guarantee. On top of the great savings we offer compared to BT, we are able to offer Voice, Connectivity, Digital and Cloud services, adding value to your business at every level.

We’re making some changes to our prices

Over the last year BT have increased some of their prices relating to Broadband, Fibre and Bundles, we’ve protected you from these increases for as long as possible but now need to increase some of our prices. We’ve kept them as low as we can but the following changes will take place from 1st December 2016:

From 1st May 2016- BT Price Increases

From 1st February 2016 - Price Changes

In June 2015 BT raised its line rental prices; an increase which Chess did not pass on within our bundles. From 1st February 2016 we have now included the line rental increase within our bundles raising the average price by 5%. To ensure you get the best possible value we have also increased the call allowances of all bundles by 10%.

We are simplifying our out of bundle international rates and prices in line with BT. As part of this simplification of our International rates some prices to destinations will reduce and some prices to destinations will rise however we will still remain on average 70% cheaper than BTs standard rate. For customers making high volumes of international calls we have introduced a new series of international bundles offering even greater savings. We have reviewed our Select Services pricing in line with market rates, our prices will change but still remain 15% cheaper than BT. Ofcom NGN Changes - 1st July

 

Important Notice: Ofcom Non Geographic Number Changes

From the 1st July 2015 Ofcom are making a number of important changes to the way you are charged for calling 08, 09 and 118 Non Geographic numbers (NGN’s).

  • UK 0800 and 0808 numbers will be free to call, not only from landlines but also from mobiles.
  • Call charges to NGN’s will be split into two parts: an “Access Charge” and a “Service Charge”.

If you call an NGN

For customers making calls to 084/087/09 numbers, billing of these calls is now separated into two parts; an Access Charge, which we have set at 7p per minute (60% cheaper than BT’s standard rate) and a Service Charge, which is set by the company who owns the number being dialled. The cost of the call will be determined by the sum of these two parts and detailed on your invoice from Chess.

If you own a NGN service

In order to comply with the new Ofcom regulations, you will need to clearly advertise the cost your customers will pay for calling your NGN. For example:

“Calls cost 20p per minute plus your phone company’s access charge.”

If you own a Freephone number

It will now be easier and cheaper for your customers to contact you. Calling an 0800 or 0808 number will be free no matter where they are dialled from, including mobile phones. However call costs to receive an 0800 or 0808 call have increased by 1.6p per minute plus a 1p connection charge.

If you rent an 084/087 number

Your business will see no change in your bill from Chess. However, as part of the Ofcom changes, these numbers may now be more expensive for your customers to call and as such are being removed from all of our inclusive call packages. You will need to ensure you offer an alternative 01/02/03 number for any after-sales support or customer service and you must also ensure that you display your call charges clearly. From 1st January 2015 - Fraud Monitor - increased to £3.99 per account
From 1st January 2015 our Fraud Monitor charge has increased to £3.99 per account plus £0.59 per channel. Telecoms fraud costs UK businesses billions each year and is on the rise. To protect our customers we continue to invest in Fraud Monitor which monitors your account for fraudulent activity, helping us stop fraudsters in their tracks and saving customers thousands.
From 1st January 2015 - Paper billing charge increased to £4.95
Chess is committed to reducing its impact on the environment and promoting green services such as e-billing. As such, and coupled with increases in postage costs, from 1st January 2015 our paper billing charge has increased to £4.95.
From 1st January 2015 - price changes

In January 2014 BT increased prices to business customers for the second time in 13 months during which time Chess’ prices have remained unchanged.

From 1st January some of our line rental, broadband, bundles, calls, select services, late payment, non direct debit and directory listing prices have changed but remain best value within the marketplace.

From the 1st of August 2014 - Chess customers a minimum 15% saving on BT

From the 1st of August 2014 BT increased call, line rental, broadband, care level and bundle charges to business customers by an average of 5% making the saving between Chess and BT even bigger!

From 1st April 2014 - BT Openreach increase engineer call our charges
From 1st April 2014 our line assurance charges have increased to come in line with the fees applied by BT Openreach for their engineer call out charges. Engineer charges cost between £145 and £205 depending on day of the week. Each additional hour of work carried out by the engineers are charged at between £60 and £120. Our new pricing is as follows, Single Analogue £1.99, Multi Analogue £3.99, ISDN2 £3.99, ISDN30 £5.99.With this protection Chess covers the cost of BT Openreach call out charges, giving you piece of mind at an incredibly reasonable price.
From 1st January 2014 - rate change
From 1st January 2014 as a result of Ofcom changes in response to the 2013 Narrowband Market Review and other industry developments, some of our rates have changed. Incremental rounding on premium and international destinations to 60 seconds excluding the following: The internationals that are part of the unlimited bundles, 0845, 0870 P3 (Alarm Lines), P7 (Alarm Lines), Wifi 7 (Lycamobile), CI-211, CIP-211, CorpPrem2013. Call tariffs have been changed to 2 decimal place billing.
