Chess people are proud to play their part in the wider community, and that’s exactly what Mark Hardy did as he Braved the Shave for a charity close to his heart.

He had his beloved beard and hair shaved off in memory of his Nanna with support of his Chess friends.

Mark Hardy from our Customer Service Satisfaction Team said:

“I decided to Brave the Shave for Macmillan as my Nanna passed away two years ago from cancer. Selfishly, I didn’t really think about Macmillan until it was our time to be supported. The work they did to help us was incredible and I really wanted to give something back.”

“I cannot do many physical things to raise money for charity, which is why I opted to Brave the Shave. I chose to do it here at Chess because one of the great things about the company is as soon as you raise £100, they also add £100 which is even better for the charity. Plus, it’s a chance to show the wider community what us Chess People are willing to do to play our part!”

Kate Wood Head of Knowledge and Culture at Chess said:

“At Chess we encourage all our people to play their part in the wider community, but Mark has gone over and above by shaving all his hair off!! I am sure he will have inspired other people to follow suit. I felt really bad the day it happened as I ignored him in the street – I didn’t recognise him! Well done Mark!”
