Jacques challenged himself to take part in 12 gruelling physical challenges throughout the year after being inspired by fellow East Cheshire Hospice supporter Lucy Waters. Jacques’ first test in January immediately set the bar high when he successfully completed a full marathon with little (to no) training.

‘In hindsight’, Jacques tells us, ‘it was probably a little bit ambitious, I was out of action for a good three days afterwards, but it was worth it and it spurred me on to challenge myself even further’.

Since then Jacques has completed two triatholons, the Three Peaks Challenge and three half marathons - and he’s only halfway through. Over the next six months Jacques is planning mountain climbing, the National Three Peaks, Tough Mudder and Hell Mudder Up North (a half marathon featuring natural obstacles) to name but a few.

All of this fitness is enough to make even the strongest athlete tired, but not Jacques. ‘It started off as 12 events over 12 months, but as I’ve got into it, I’ve wanted to do more and more. I’m now hoping to have completed 20 challenges over the next 12 months to really raise the stakes.’

Better you than us Jacques – we asked what had been his most challenging feat to date?

‘It had to be the triathlon, I’m not much of a swimmer so it was hard. The course consisted of a 400m swim, 30k bike ride and an 8k run. By the end of it I was a zombie. But the adrenalin and the thought of raising money for such a worthy cause pushed me over the finish line’

As well as the fitness challenges, Jacques has also continued to bolster funds  by holding other events both inside and outside of the office, recently holding a raffle and with plans for an auction in the autumn.

Jacques is currently at around £600 of his £3000 target so any contributions are very welcome on his Just Giving page.

We wish you the best of luck with the rest of your challenges Jacques!
